Puerto Rico will try to build on their momentum after beating the Dominican Republic when they play Mexico in the quarter-finals of the World Baseball Classic.
Former Toronto Blue Jays and current Chicago Cub player Marcus Stroman will take on Julio Urias for Mexico.
It would be Stroman’s second start in the tournament after giving up one earned streak on two hits and recording two strikeouts in 4.2 innings against Nicaragua.
After representing the United States at the 2017 World Baseball Classic, Stroman chose to represent Puerto Rico as a nod to his mother.
My mom is my heart. She is my rock. She is my best friend. She is my blood. So anytime I can represent this woman – I love her more than anything – anything for Mom,” Stroman told MLB.com.
“I feel like I resonate with these guys, with the way I dress, with my culture. I’m happy to be with them on the field,” he added.
